25 March/April 2018 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Richard Rathjens received the President's Award from the Ohio chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture. The award is bestowed at the discretion of the group's current president for "services deemed significant and substantial to the president during his term of office," which, in Rathjens' case, involved strengthening connections with other organizations with missions similar to the Ohio chapter of the ISA. Rathjens is a technical advisor with the Davey Institute. Congrats, Rich! Davey's Corporate Communications and Marketing Department received three Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) Professional Communications Awards in 2017 – more than any other tree care company. Davey won awards in three categories: flyer/ad/postcard for the Economic Benefits of Trees bookmark; digital/social media for Davey's mannequin challenge video; and the website category for the Davey Blog. Sandra Reid, vice president, Davey corporate communications and strategic planning administration, accepted the awards from Andy Felix, TCIA board chair, at the 2018 TCIA Winter Management Conference in Maui, Hawaii. Congrats to all the winners! Arborguard Tree Specialists won the 2017 Outstanding Marketing Grand Award for their new Construction and Development website from the Georgia Urban Forest Council (GUFC). To view the website visit http://cd.arborguard.com/. The GUFC also awarded David Dechant (pictured right), senior consulting arborist, Arborguard, with the 2017 Outstanding Individual Achievement Grand Award. The awards were presented at GUFC's 2017 Excellence in Urban Forestry Awards Program at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia. Also pictured are Arborguard's Jamie Blackburn (left) and Ben Kent. Congrats to David and Arborguard! Vince Mikulanis, center, Davey Resource Group, was awarded the San Diego Regional Urban Forests Council (SDRUFC) "Best Regional Council Representative" for 2017. This is the second year SDRUFC has held these awards. Mikulanis' contributions to the council included helping with the website, managing social media, organizing two large tree plantings and being involved in several Arbor Day events. "It means a lot to be recognized," Mikulanis said. "But, I'm even happier about the projects we completed and the momentum we are gaining as an organization to not only add to our local tree canopy, but educate the public about the importance of trees." Congratulations, Vince! IN THE SPOTLIGHT Sandra Harbrecht, president and CEO of Paul Werth Associates, was named CEO of the year by Columbus CEO magazine in the small, for-profit category for 2017. Sandra is a member of the Davey board of directors. Congrats, Sandra! Vito Monteleone, branch manager, Cleveland West Commercial Landscape Services territory, was featured on the February cover of Snow Business Magazine, the official publication of the Snow and Ice Management Association. The cover story highlighted the Cleveland West territory's snow and ice management on the Cleveland Clinic's downtown Cleveland campus. Congrats Vito and the rest of the Cleveland West crew!
