DAVEY
AROUND THE
RIDING TO RUSHMORE
A visit to Mount Rushmore National
Park is a trip most Americans hope
to make.
The 76th Annual Sturgis
®
Motorcycle
Rally in August 2016 traveled to
Mount Rushmore, providing the
perfect opportunity for Davey
employees, and motorcycle
enthusiasts, Harland Johnson, Jack
Bloomfield and Fred Riedel to use
their passion for riding to make the
trip [Johson passed away March 29,
2017; see page 33].
The mountain-top sculpture depicts
four former U.S. presidents – George
Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham
Lincoln. Naturally, The Bulletin
made it into one of their saddlebags
for the ride. They joined half-a-
million bikers on the week-long
journey across South Dakota.
"It's one of the biggest motorcycle
rallies in the United States,"
Riedel said.
This was his second time attending
the rally.
"It was good bonding time seeing
what people are like out of work,"
Riedel said. "We had a lot of fun."
