NOTES
FIELD
No matter what your title is, fostering
talent and growing your own skill
set is an essential part of what you
do at Davey.
We all work together to help each
other grow, learn and succeed. One
of the best examples of this mentality
is Davey Tree's Arbor Grant scholarship
program. For over 25 years, Davey
has awarded merit-based scholarships
of up to $1,000 to green industry
students each year.
Since the program began, the Davey
Foundation has awarded more than
$625,000.
In 2016 alone, Davey distributed 49
Arbor Grants to students from Alaska
to Maine. Sixty-five percent of those
FOSTERING THE FUTURE THROUGH ARBOR GRANT SCHOLARSHIPS
went to Davey interns, such as Kyle
Meyer and John Moore.
For Moore, this was his second
consecutive Arbor Grant. When he
interned with Davey in the summer
of 2015 at Davey's South Houston
R/C office, an arborist told him about
ARBOR GRANTS 2016
49 scholarships distributed to students in 23 states
65 percent of the grants given to Davey interns
88 percent more scholarships given than in 2006
the program. Moore saw it as a great
opportunity to "get his name out there
with Davey and build a relationship.
Plus, the scholarship really helped
with the high cost of textbooks."
Meyer, likewise, greatly appreciated
the financial help – especially because
he's paying his way through school.
This spring, Meyer will be graduating
with a forestry degree from Colorado
State University. "I always knew I
was going to work outside. After
graduation, I plan on continuing my
career at Davey and seeing where it
takes me," Meyer said.
Arbor Grant scholarships, especially
when coupled with internships at
Davey, help set students up for
professional success before they
even graduate.
Kyle Meyer, who interned at Davey's Fort
Collins, Colorado, R/C office, accepts his
Arbor Grant from the office's district
manager, Natalie McNeill.
