March/April 2017 | The Davey Bulletin 31 • Make a living doing what makes you happy. "If you don't like what you're doing, you don't need to do it. Do something else. Because once you find what you like, you're going to excel if you try. Especially at Wolf and Davey, you work your way up, just like me, from a trimmer to a crew lead and even a supervisor or manager." • Do the best you can while being safe. "You want to do your job the best you can. The main thing is for everyone to be safe. This is hard, physical work. You want to go home to your family, so you need to be as safe as possible. You always have to watch what you're doing. Don't be in a hurry, and don't do something how you shouldn't be doing it!" RETIREE CORNER HUSKEY'S TOP 3 LESSONS LEARNED: 45 YEARS OF WISDOM The summer after Ralph Huskey graduated high school in 1965, he started at Wolf Tree, Inc., a Davey company. Over the next 45 years, Huskey would serve as a groundman, trimmer, crew leader and a supervisor on the Alcoa Electric Utility account. Day by day and year by year, Huskey learned what it took to succeed and grow in the industry. In the January/February issue of The Bulletin, Jeff McKnight, foreman, Utility west, was incorrectly identified in a photograph of a climber at the North American Tree Climbing Championship. The photo featured Adam Turchet, foreman, Hamilton R/C office. CORRECTION Adam Turchet • Be present, and soak up the small successes. "When I was at work, I was at work. I just took it one day at a time, every day. Then before going home for the day, I liked to look back and see what we did. And I was proud. You could see it, exactly what you did. We trimmed those trees and cleared that path. That felt good." Verena Neal, retiree, passed away Dec. 30, 2016. Neal retired in 2016 following 19 years of service. Neal was a sales and service technician at the Seattle office. IN MEMORIAM Ralph Huskey describes himself as an "old country boy." In Tennessee, he spends his days on simple pleasures like gardening, spending time with his wife, dogs and goats and fixing things around the house.
