After 100 years of historic tension between Cuba and the United States, President Obama's official visit and handshake with Cuban President Raúl Castro in 2016 bred hope of peaceful relations to come. With this mending of the United States and Cuban relationship in mind, Davey's Sean Sornberger, North Bay account manager, PG&E, for the Davey Tree Surgery Company, and his girlfriend Dede Corsano thought it would be the perfect time to visit this large Caribbean nation. Traveling to Cuba's capitol Havana was very easy and affordable, Sornberger said. But once there, Sornberger and Corsano were thrown into a world much different than America's everyday luxuries – with no credit cards or phones. "We had to navigate the city with a paper map," Sornberger said. This was difficult because Sornberger and his girlfriend spoke very little Spanish, the dominant language in Cuba. However, the avid travelers were ready to take on the challenges Cuba's culturally rich streets presented to them. During their 10-day visit, Sornberger and Corsano traveled through many of Havana's popular squares, including Old Havana, home to many historic and architecturally masterful churches. On Corsano's birthday, the couple rented a classic car that took them all over the city, including to Ernest Hemingway's estate. A memorable stop along the way was Revolution Square. There, Sornberger and his Davey Bulletin stopped for a photo in front of the 100-ton steel mural of Commander Camilo FLAVOR OF CUBA Cienfuegos with his famous words, "Vas Bien, Fidel," which translates to: "You're doing fine, Fidel." Sornberger said being removed from modern luxuries for some time helped him and his girlfriend appreciate Cuba's unique culture, wonderful people and appetizing food that much more. Sean Sornberger poses with a recent Bulletin during a trip to Cuba. The Davey Tree Expert Company P.O. Box 5193 Kent, Ohio 44240-5193 WORLD DAVEY AROUND THE
