For the record, "long-term" is
typically considered three to five
years. Not only can long-term
planning help enhance the look
and value of your business, facility
or property, it's a powerful way to
save money on both maintenance
and enhancement costs.
"It's all about the savings," says
Davey Branch Manager Vito
Monteleone. "That starts with
communicating honestly and
openly. Going over your entire
plan with us can help us help you
make better, cost-saving decisions.
We want to hear your vision for
your property and learn about
anything coming down the pike.
For example, if you have trees
that have to come down but you'll
be bringing a dozer through to
renovate the site, we don't need
to spend your budget grinding tree
stumps."
To save even more, says Davey's
national design partner Anne Coke,
keep maintenance in mind when
formulating your long-term plan.
"Consider how mowers, tree
trimming trucks and fertilizer
applicators need to access your
property," she says. "If a property
is difficult for maintenance crews
to maneuver, then the time and
cost to maintain the property will
increase accordingly."
Coke also uses special design
software so clients can see the
visual impact of a proposed
enhancement project long before
shovel hits soil.
"You want your place of business
to look inviting and perhaps
even stand out as a billboard for
passing traffic," says Coke. "I can
show you many amazing plant
varieties that offer showy attributes
yet don't require an excessive
amount of costly maintenance."

BUDGET
HOW PLANNING CAN SAVE $
It's been said that a goal without a plan is just a wish. And never is that
more true than when it comes to long-term landscape planning.
