Hockey, a cherished Canadian pastime, unites Davey Canada
employees through comradery, passion and teamwork.
Last year, Chris Deathe, district manager of the Hamilton
office, and his crew members formed a competitive hockey
team outside of work. From October through March, Deathe
and 14 of his employees played every Monday night.
"From a hiring perspective, you want people who are athletic
and understand the team sport mentality," says Deathe.

"Protecting each other on and off the ice keeps up morale
around the office and job sites," Deathe says.
Nick Lawson, a climber in Deathe's office, grew up playing
hockey and was excited by the opportunity to play again.
Lawson joined Davey less than a year ago and already feels
a tight bond with his teammates and fellow employees.
"Hockey shares the same values as field work," he says.
"Both allow you to work and communicate as a team."
"I've been an employee owner since the day I was able to start
about four years ago. It's very different from owning other
stocks because every day my personal production can affect
the overall success of the company. When you invest in Davey,
you can help yourself by doing high-quality work and provid

ing great client service. Knowing your job, even the smallest
task, helps Davey profit–and that helps you in the long run. If
you work hard, you'll see the results. As we strive to go above
and beyond our competition, we help ensure companywide
and personal success."
