30 | May/June 2016 SPOTLIGHT IN THE Davey's Road to Zero Illustration featured in the MyDavey Bulletin's July/August 2015 edition won the Silver Addy award in the illustration category at the American Advertising Awards national competition. This is Davey's first time entering and winning at this prestigious competition conducted by the American Advertising Federation. Illustrator Dave Szalay created the graphic (pictured above). Congrats, Dave! Nicholas Hengel received The Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA) Foundation Scholarship. Hengel was one of 23 students to receive the scholarship at the Northern Green Expo in January. "It was great to receive this scholarship to help me pay for college," Hengel says. "Especially while I'm working less hours at work and taking classes." Hengel is in his second year in the Horticulture Technology program at Rochester Community and Technical College, while he also works as a trimmer for Maier Tree and Lawn, a Davey company, in Rochester, Minnesota. "I plan on staying with Davey after graduation and hope to advance my career within the company." Congratulations Nick! Nicholas St. Sauveur, general foreman, Cortese Tree, (center) received the prestigious Golden Oak award at the 2016 D.I.T.S. banquet in Kent, Ohio. While pleased to be honored, St. Sauveur humbly downplayed the award, saying, "It's just a piece of wood at the end of the day. Everything I learned at D.I.T.S. and how I can use it to better serve our clients is the real award. Coming to D.I.T.S. means the world to me. I've wanted to come since day one. I'm always looking for ways to improve myself – become a better asset to improve this company. I'm in for the long haul." Congratulations, Nicholas! John Rukkila, supervisor, Orlando CLS, pictured left with R.J. Laverne, received the D.I.T.S. Faculty Award at the 2016 D.I.T.S. banquet in Kent, Ohio. The Faculty Award is presented to the D.I.T.S. participant who best exemplifies the spirit of seeking knowledge and the willingness to share that knowledge with others. On being selected, Rukkila said, "I'm really appreciative and ready to go home and share with everyone in my branch. If I didn't have such an amazing branch manager who filled in for me, I don't think this would have been possible. I want to give special thanks to my wife, 4-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son who came along with me to Kent. All the other students got to meet them. They were like little mascots." Congratulations, John!
