Davey's Andy Jungwirth (left) and Eduardo Medina (right) helped hundreds of children from Mooseheart Child City and School climb a rope 25 feet to the ceiling. Story submitted by Mandy McCauley, Client Experience Coordinator, West Chicago Office Davey Chicago employees took 200-plus kids to new heights at the Mooseheart Child City and School. Mooseheart is a residential childcare facility and Child City, Mooseheart's campus, is home to hundreds of children and teens, from infancy through high school, whose families are unable to care for them for a variety of reasons. Davey volunteered to set up a 25 feet tall climbing challenge at a recent fun fair for the organization. Davey's climb- ing hosts included: Andy Jungwirth, sales arborist at the West Chicago office; Eduardo Medina, regional recruiter and trainer; Felicia Speranske, groundman at the West Chicago office; Brad Wise, district manager at the West Chicago office; and Casey West, client experience coordinator at the West Chicago office. 14 | May/June 2016 Davey's Miles Peart from the Toronto West office teaches a number of scouts about trees and the tree care industry. Davey's Miles Peart grew up in the outdoors as a scout. Now, Peart, sales arborist at the Toronto West office, returned to the Scout Can- ada campgrounds he once roamed as a child to complete hazard tree removal work as a professional. While Peart worked, he saw another opportunity to give back. "I volunteered to get out there with the kids and teach them about tree care," says Peart. For two years, Peart has taught kids in Willowdale's Scout Troup from Club Pack to Beaver Colony about basic tree identification, tree biology and how trees propagate. He also took the kids on a nature walk. "A lot of the kids going into scouts are interested in the environment, in knots and working in the outdoors," says Peart, who was a scout for 10-plus years. "All are similar passions for those who work at Davey." Davey Canada looks to explore this blossoming client relationship with Scouts Canada for future recruiting ventures and partnerships. Already, all Scouts Canada campgrounds in Ontario are now considered available training grounds for Davey staff. "We have a lot to offer them (Scout's Canada) and they us," Peart says.
