WORLD DAVEY AROUND THE Last autumn, Ryan Feura and his MyDavey Bulletin flew to new heights in an A-Star helicopter to survey the land from above. Feura, a senior consulting utility forester for Davey Resource Group, flew east from Gillespie Field airport in El Cajon, California, to Imperial County, CA, to survey vegetation in a helicopter-aided visual inspection for a client. Using GPS coordinates during flight, Feura recorded tree clearance, the number of tree species and which THE MYDAVEY BULLETIN REACHES NEW HEIGHTS trees required trimming or removal. "We have to fly because we survey very remote areas," Feura says. He has flown over trees only 50 to 60 feet off the ground to heights much higher, like over long stretches of mountain ranges. "The survey took about three and half hours, round trip," Feura says, adding he had The MyDavey Bulletin with him the whole time. Both Feura and his copy of The MyDavey Bulletin landed safe after a successful aerial land survey, in which he ultimately recorded miles of oak, willow, eucalyptus and cottonwood trees. Feura then compiled his notes and created a tree care plan based on aerial observations in order to keep the client's trees as healthy as possible for years to come. Feura was lucky enough to fly twice this year to survey the client's land from new heights. "It's exciting to do something different. It's a nice change of pace." The Davey Tree Expert Company P.O.
