RETIREE CORNER
Kent, Ohio – the location of Davey's corporate offices –
doesn't look quite the same as it did when many retirees
still worked for the company.
Perhaps the new development projects, businesses and
restaurants were surprising to see as some retirees arrived
in town for a luncheon on Oct. 14 at the Kent State
University Hotel and Conference Center.
Nearly 30 retirees attended the luncheon, which was
intended to gather past employees from Northeast Ohio for
a viewing of the Davey exhibit at the Kent Historical Society.
Retiree Donna White, who attended the luncheon and
tour, recalls working in the tight confines of the downtown
offices before moving to the sprawling, new corporate

complex in 1985.
"We were working so close together downtown that you
heard everything that was said in the department next to you,"
she says. "The close-quarters comradery fostered a family
atmosphere, a culture that didn't change with the move."
The Kent Historical Society exhibit, titled "Davey and Kent:
Growing Together Since 1880," features a variety of artifacts
– many of which several Davey retirees likely recognized.
The items on display, which focus on the general history of
the company, the transition to employee ownership in 1979
and the 1985 corporate complex construction and grand
opening in Kent, remained at the Kent Historical Society
through December.

which was on display at the Kent Historical
Society, closed in December 2015.
