4 | January/February 2016 Because the tree care industry is forever adapting and growing, Davey seeks new talent to help enhance the company's reputation. Fortunately, Davey's longstanding relationship with Purdue University continues to grow with new recruitment opportunities each year. Kevin McBride, district manager at the Indianapolis R/C office, is proud to have four Purdue graduates on his team, including trimmer Isaac Miller, trimmer Alex Sitterding, sales arborist Mike Volz and Plant Health Care technician Mitch Wright. "Purdue has produced some quality graduates that have been and will continue to be outstanding additions to Davey's Indianapolis R/C office," McBride says. "Their formal education contributes to our level of professionalism, from sales to production in the field." McBride says three of his Purdue graduates have earned their Indiana State Pesticide Applicator's Licenses. Sitterding and Volz both worked hard to become International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) certified arborists as well. "Mike, Alex, Mitch and Isaac are all motivated individuals that see the opportunities with Davey and will play key roles in the growth of our office," McBride says. Off the Ground PURDUE GRADUATES CHOOSE DAVEY "The most rewarding part about my Davey internship was just helping people and actually making a difference in their lives… Helping people put their lives back together after the storm was the most rewarding." – Taylor Souders, a Pennsylvania State University student who interned at Davey's King of Prussia R/C office last summer. After severe thunderstorms and tornadoes tore through areas near Philadelphia and New Jersey, Souders had the opportunity to help a homeowner salvage family photos that had scattered when a pipe burst during a site visit she attended with Sales Arborist Kevin Weston. A tree fell on the home during the storms. In the photo, Souders is posing next to a Davey vehicle she encountered at the National Mall during a landscape design class trip to Washington, D.C. She submitted the photo to King of Prussia R/C District Manager Chris Miller last fall. BOARD BULLETIN
