The Davey Tree Expert Company P.O. Box 5193 Kent, Ohio 44240-5193 WORLD DAVEY AROUND THE "Two amazing trees in one day." That's how Chris Heim, district man- ager at Davey's Atlanta R/C office, and recent retiree Jeff Matheney, summed up their two-stop trip to inspect tree giants last spring. Since 1950, Davey has cared for a special giant tree in Waycross, Georgia – the Village Sentinel, a state champion live oak tree. The live oak is now the second largest champion tree in its species and has been a huge part of Davey's history. Heim says the first time he worked on this tree was in 1984. "It's my favorite tree in the world," Heim adds. "It's a privilege to be able to work on it year after year." Matheney also shares a special connection with this tree after being in charge of the live oak account for more than 20 years during his Davey career. Upon retirement, Matheney remembers asking Heim to invite TWO TREE GIANTS, ONE GREAT TRIP him whenever Heim visits the tree to inspect it. So, that is exactly what Heim did when he received a request to assess the tree this spring. With The MyDavey Bulletin in tow, Heim and Matheney took a trip to give the live oak its annual inspection – making sure it was healthy and that no further maintenance is necessary. After the tree cleared its inspection, Heim and Matheney traveled to Coffee County, Georgia, to inspect the national champion eastern red cedar tree. The eastern red cedar is featured in the Davey-sponsored 2015 National Big Tree Program Calendar for the month of April. "This was a very fun day as we checked out the trees. We enjoyed the experience," Heim says. "The pictures are amazing, but they don't do the trees justice."
