The Flight 93 National Memorial is a
correlation of extremes. It features a
stark black granite walkway and polished
white marble panels inscribed with the
names of each passenger and crewmember
on board that tragic day.
To further honor the ultimate sacrifice
made by these American heroes is a
stunning gallery of 1,600 trees - 40 groves
containing 40 rows of trees, representing
the 40 crew and passengers that perished
on September, 11, 2001. Planted in 2012
the 40 Memorial Groves sweep from the
three-mile winding entrance all the way to
the Memorial Plaza. In May 2015 Davey
sponsored and led a group of volunteers in
a day of service where nearly every grove
tree was pruned.
To help ensure the health and beauty of
these reverent trees, five employees from
Davey Resource Group (DRG) volunteered ,
training and supervising a crew of Friends of
Flight 93 volunteers. Together, they spent a
Saturday inspecting, pruning and assisting
with clean-up efforts.
"Now they have a chance to grow tall and
healthy, leaving a permanent and positive
mark on the landscape of this very special
place," says DRG Regional Operations
Manager Karen Wise.
