September/October 2015 | 19 Paying It Forward Idea submitted by: Mike Rolband, vice president of operations, WSSI Design Engineer Margaret McMenamin and Architect Leslie Bartlebaugh, both from Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc. (WSSI), had the opportunity to "pay it forward" this spring when current Shenandoah students visited the WSSI facility for a tour. "I'm grateful to you and your staff for making this experience possible," says Woody Bousquet, professor of environmental studies and biology and director of Shenandoah University's Blue Ridge Institute for Environmental Studies. In their course evaluations, students expressed much appreciation toward particular topics McMenamin and Bartlebaugh discussed, such as inter- viewing, job responsibilities, clients and needs for field and lab skills on the job. "You shared perspectives that undergraduates need to understand but rarely have a chance to hear presented so convincingly," Bousquet says. Allegany College and Pennsylvania State University Mont Alto forestry students visit Davey's Chesapeake R/C office in Wye Mills, Maryland. Davey's Kolby Corrigan, Paul Herb, Chris Klimas and Craig Ritter provided a tour of the operations, as well as hands-on demonstrations with equipment, such as an aerial, an Intelligent Powertrain Management (IPM) truck and a tree spade. The event concluded with a barbeque lunch for all attendees. "We all came away with how important safety is to all of you," says Craig Houghton, forest technology instructor and program coor- dinator at Penn State Mont Alto. "You are all so kind to spend time with our young group of students who are still trying to find their interests and focus." Future Focus Idea submitted by: Chris Klimas, operations manager, Mid-Atlantic region, R/C services
