nce Ian Haws finished his free stock
car ride during the Portage County
Randolph Fair, he was hooked.
The Soap Box Derby, a youth racing program
that has run nationally since 1934, attracts
children, teens and their families to races all
year long. Those who place compete in the
World Championship finals event each July in

enjoy the process every step along the way.
Ian's father, Jason, helped build Ian's very
own stock car, sponsored by Davey's utility
services and adorned with the Davey logo—
including lots of Davey green, of course.
"Ian's favorite part of the design is seeing
his name written in fancy lettering," says Laura
Wimer, Ian's aunt and business manager for
utility services.
Because Ian, 8, has two younger sisters, he
enjoys the opportunity to focus on the derby,
now his very own hobby. "He loves to travel
to different parts of Ohio with his parents for
races on the weekends," Wimer explains.
