N
estled on the southern tip of Costa Rica
is Montezuma, a remote village that
gained popularity for its fishing variety, scenic
beaches and calming waterfalls. The village is
frequented by visitors seeking a bohemian-vibe
culture and picturesque landscapes. Locals
welcome travelers and invite many to participate
in daily yoga classes or art shows.
Dreaming of this beautiful, tropical
paradise as he describes, Kyle Vincent, district
manager at Davey's Muskoka North office,
took a vacation to Costa Rica last winter; one
of the harshest winters on record. Although
he is quite used to the frigid Canadian weather,
Vincent says he took the trip to escape winter's
wrath and reward himself for completing the
Davey Institute of Tree Sciences (DITS).
Vincent stumbled upon a massive banyan
tree on his way to Montezuma. The banyan
is a frequent tourist attraction and locally
proclaimed as the largest tree in Costa Rica.
At 30 feet wide and 130 feet tall, the banyan
houses an entire rainforest ecosystem in its
trunk. It provides fruit, shelter and a hiding spot
for a variety of birds, mammals and reptiles.
"As soon as I saw this tree, I knew I wanted
to get a photo with The MyDavey Bulletin,"
Vincent says.
