rimmer Aquilino Amador travelled quite a
long way—from Nashville, Tennessee, to
Milwaukee, Wisconsin—to climb a tree.
But he wasn't the only individual to travel such
a far distance to climb that same tree. In fact,
climbers from foreign countries arrived to not
only compete in tree climbing events but also to
simply watch others practice their skills. And the
MyDavey Bulletin was right there with the crowd.
Thanks to his performances at the 2014
Tennessee State Tree Climbing Championship
and the Southern Chapter ISA Tree Climbing
Championship, Amador qualified for the 2014
ISA International Tree Climbing Championship,
which Milwaukee's Mount Mary University
hosted in August.
Although this was Amador's first
international tree climbing event, he
says he felt pretty comfortable while
competing. "I don't feel stressed; the
biggest part is competing against
the best of the best," he explains.
Amador says aerial rescue was
the most technical and most difficult
event in which he competed. "I think
I need to practice harder for next time
and work on more of the new techniques,"
he says, reflecting on the experience.
Overall, Amador looks forward to the
opportunity to compete in future championships,
as well as bringing new knowledge and techniques
back to the Nashville crew to share what he has
learned. As he says, "I got to learn more about
the different techniques that I have never seen
before. It's important that I made it all the way
over here because it makes me stronger."
