Standing Rock Cemetery is Kent, Ohio's most well-known
memorial garden, the final resting place of the town's Founding
Fathers. In the mid 1800s, this special place was muted by wild
vegetation: years of overgrowth, mismanaged plants and poor
maintenance practices.
Until a new caretaker was hired: A man from England named
John Davey. He was passionate about trees and landscape
preservation, and he went to work transforming the cemetery
into a beautiful memorial park, a place of tranquility that attracted
visitors from throughout the region.
This success fueled his passion for natural resource preservation
and led him to found The Davey Tree Expert Company that same
year. The mechanical and scientific principles that he used to
restore Standing Rock became the foundation for the tree care
industry and our approach to tree and landscape service.
