10 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | September/October 2024 INTEGRITY When a woman came into the Chippers, a Davey company's Woodstock offi ce in Vermont, and told client experience coordinator Kim Cloud that she had a fl at tire, Cloud rushed to get help. Jason Larocque, mechanic, was able to assist. After fi lling the woman's spare tire with air, and switching it out with the fl at, Larocque was able to get her back on the road safely. "I was raised to help anyone who needs help," Larocque said. "We need to help one another, that's ultimately what it comes down to." FLAT TIRE ASSISTANCE Jacob Evanek, UVM technician, Utility Vegetation Management services, Davey Resource Group, was in the middle of doing a hazard tree patrol for New York State Electric & Gas in Horseheads, New York, when he came across a house with a tree that needed removed. After approaching, he saw the two front doors were left open. Evanek knocked but didn't hear a response, so he looked inside to fi nd an elderly man lying on the ground, unable to get up. He left the house to call the man's family member due to the lack of phone service in the area and came back to fi nd two other family members pulling up to the property. Together, they lifted the man onto the couch before Evanek went with one of the family members to her house down the street to call Emergency Medical Services. "We come across so many different situations with different people, and when somebody is in clear need of help, we have to do something," Evanek said. "If I were in the homeowner's shoes, I'd want somebody there if I'm not doing well." HOMEOWNER ASSISTANCE Jacob Evanek, UVM technician, Davey Resource Group Wendy Austin, UVM technician, Utility Vegetation Management services, Davey Resource Group, was working on a windy day in Gillham, Arkansas when she noticed a debris fi re between a camper trailer and a mobile home. The fi re began to spread rapidly due to the wind, so Austin let the property owners know, evacuated the occupants of the trailer and mobile home, and called the fi re depart- ment. She stayed back with the four adults and fi ve children as they waited for help to arrive. "Davey is very clear that we should never take on a fi re too big for our suppression measures and that we are never required to fi ght a fi re," Austin said. "Once I realized that I did not have suffi cient suppression measures, my only goal was to keep the family safe."
