25 September/October 2024 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN IN THE SPOTLIGHT Haley Kelly was named the Maryland Building Industry Association's 2023 Professional Women in Building Woman of the Year Award. The award is presented to a woman who serves as a leadership role model and "is the residential construction industry's premier award recognizing a woman for her exceptional achievement(s) in the building industry and/or for her extraordinary contributions advocating for the advancement of women in the profession," according to the National Association of Home Builder's website. Kelly is an environmental scientist, Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company. Congratulations, Haley! Jacob McMains (right), accepting the Midwestern Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture's (MW-ISA) Award of Merit. McMains was presented with this award because of the support he provided to the Missouri Community Forestry Council over the past fi ve years. The Award of Merit recognizes "outstanding meritorious service in advancing the principles, ideals and practices of arboriculture", according to the MW-ISA website. McMains is an area manager, Environmental Consulting services, Davey Resource Group. Congratulations, Jacob! Davey corporate offi ce employees are pictured accepting an award celebrating Davey's 45 years of employee-ownership from the Ohio Employee Ownership Center (OEOC) at the OEOC Conference. Davey is the largest employee-owned company headquartered in Ohio and is the ninth largest employee-owned company in the United States. Congratulations, Davey! Dr. Thomas Whitney was awarded the 2023 John Z. Duling Grant from the Tree Fund for his project on "Effi cacy of Aphidoletes aphidimyza predator releases to control aphid populations on linden street trees." The program provides start-up or seed funding to support research and technology transfer projects that have the potential of benefi ting the everyday work of arborists. Whitney is a technical advisor, Davey Institute. Congratulations, Thomas! Green Industry Pros awarded Sandra Reid, vice president, corporate communications and strategic planning (left), Cindy Schwab, Residential/Commercial services operations talent manager (middle), and Audrey Sellepack, pesticide compliance specialist, Davey Institute (right), with 2024 Women in the Green Industry Awards. Reid received the Seasoned Pro award, which honors female professionals who have been in the industry for 20-plus years and have made signifi cant strides in promoting other women in the green industry. Schwab received the Unsung Hero award, which honors an employee who always puts her nose to the grindstone but who may not always get the recognition she deserves. Sellepack received the Up-and-Comer award, which honors female professionals under 35 who have made signifi cant strides in the industry. Congratulations, Sandra, Cindy, and Audrey! Lori Brockelbank was elected to serve on the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Board of Directors for the 2024-2025 term, voted on by ISA members. She will work with 14 board members from across the globe to create strategic direction, fi scal oversight and policy development for the organization as a whole.
