16 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | September/October 2024 Four Factors and Forces training sessions took place over the course of two months this summer with approximately 131 employees from Davey Resource Group (DRG), Eastern Utility services, and Residential/Commercial services in attendance. "After the training, a client asked me if I thought a tree was able to be saved. I used what I learned at Factors and Forces to identify fungal fruiting bodies and a huge vertical crack," Morgan King, PHC technician, North Detroit offi ce, said. "Thanks to the training, I learned a lot about identifying safe trees." The training focused on how tree biology affects the structural integrity of the tree. The "fi ve factors" and the EMPLOYEES GAIN NEW SKILLS AT FACTORS AND FORCES "fi ve forces" are used to examine the health and integrity of a tree to determine if it's safe to work on and climb. "My favorite part of the training was learning about the fungus. It's relevant to what I'm interested in and what I do, and a lot of the specifi cs were fl eshed out," Brielle Slattery, UVM lead specialist, DRG, said. "The training was so much fun. I love working for Davey because they put in the time and effort to help us succeed by continuing to educate us. It makes me feel so valued."
