17 July/August 2024 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Three arborist skills rigging sessions were held over three days each for 40 Residential/Commercial (R/C) services employees this spring. The sessions were held at Camp Pecometh in Centreville, Maryland, in Auburn Heights, Ohio, and at Eagle Bluff Center in Lanesboro, Minnesota. The topics for all sessions included working with different R/C EMPLOYEES DEVELOP RIGGING SKILLS TeVaun Smitherman, trimmer, Indianapolis office (left), and Alex Gibbs, trimmer, Columbus office (right), are tying a running bowline at the rigging training in Auburn Heights, Ohio. Additional R/C services employees who attended were from the Cincinnati, Columbus, East Cleveland, East Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, North Pittsburgh, West Cleveland, West Columbus, and Youngstown offices. The Maryland session included employees from the Alexandria, Annapolis, Charlottesville, King of Prussia, North Baltimore, North Philadelphia, North Virginia West, Richmond, and South Baltimore offices. Maier Tree, North Minneapolis, South Minneapolis, and South St. Paul office employees attended the training in Minnesota. Employees from Eastern Utility services, Wolf Tree, Inc., a Davey company, and Davey Tree Surgery Company gathered at the corporate campus in Kent, Ohio for the Davey Institute of Utility Vegetation Management (D.I.U.V.M.) training session that spanned five days. The session covered topics such as health and safety, trees and utilities, environmental stewardship, U.S. UTILITY SERVICES EMPLOYEES GATHER FOR D.I.U.V.M. pruning, and Factors & Forces. The attendees also received an overview of the company and gained insight into employee engagement and development. They took part in outdoor utility labs scattered throughout the week to improve their field skills. Alberto Baltazar, general foreman, Southern California Edison trimming account, Surgery Company, found that the training helps with understanding Twenty-seven Surgery Company and Eastern Utility employees from the Atlantic, Central, Gulf, and Lakes regions, attended the Davey Institute of Utility Vegetation Management training session at the corporate campus. all the different sides to being a leader. "It honed our ability to think critically about the situation we're in and the work we do."
