15 July/August 2024 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Planting the SEED (Skills Enhancement & Employee Development), an Eastern Utility services leadership development program, held their latest session over the course of three days EASTERN UTILITY MANAGEMENT ATTENDS PLANTING THE SEED in Kent, Ohio, at the Davey Institute. Thirteen managers from Eastern Utility attended, who not only completed the program but also focused on how they can better support their team members who are completing the program as well. This training was created to support managers by helping them learn how to be courageous leaders, hone the craft of leadership, and build a leadership pipeline for the future. "The program really opens your eyes on how to be more comfortable with yourself," Brandon Behnke, account manager, corporate office, said. "I enjoyed opening up about my background and explaining why I am the way I am, not only as an employee but also as a person." Planting the SEED attendees from Eastern Utility services, including Earl Blevins, Brandon Behnke, Chris Branch, Bill Bunker, Dave Fulk, Kelly Kiel, Mark Mittiga, Rachel Palmer, Matt Roddy, Terry Waggoner, Mike Walsh, Bill Wulf and Alex Zander are pictured listening to facilitator Mike Testa setting up a group activity that involves the concept of vision and leadership. Pictured on the far left is Travis McDonald, market manager, Minnesota region, R/C services, speaking to the board and R/C leadership on their stop to visit South Minneapolis office crews. The crews spent two days on a high-volume tree removal, pruning, and shrub pruning job in a suburban neighborhood southwest of Minneapolis. Davey removed 31 trees near an access point to a lake, pruned several other trees, shrubs and plants on the property. Local Minneapolis leadership also heard updates about Davey's recent initiatives at the "Power Hour" program held before the Board Dinner. Attendees learned about Davey's new SEED (Science, Employee Education and Development) Campus, DaveyConnect, employee-ownership, and Davey Foundation. They also had an opportunity to talk with service line leadership, have their portrait taken and give a quick videotaped interview about leadership skills.
