13 July/August 2024 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN For Dan Morgan, regional manager, government projects management, CLS, the employee-ownership company culture at Davey means we take a lot of pride in what we do, and what we're able to offer clients. "When you're building teams in an office, the employee- ownership aspect means you have an opportunity to focus that team on one goal," Morgan said. "We all have the same goal to make Davey the best it can be." Morgan said becoming an employee-owner was a no -brainer. After Morgan joined the company through Davey's acquisition of Monteleone Landscaping Company in 2009, Dan Joy, executive vice president & assistant to the president, was one of the first people he met. "Dan's passion for Davey made it easy to like this place," Morgan said. "He told us the story of Davey, how it came to be, and there was this instant feeling of, even though it's a corporation, it still has a family feel." Morgan's Davey journey has taken him from Northeast Ohio to the East Coast, Southeast, and now, he lives in Peyton, Colorado, with his wife, Carole, and 15-year-old son, Daniel. He manages 39 CLS operations throughout the country, with clients ranging from military family housing to cemetery verticals. Morgan credits his experience attending D.I.T.S. in 2012 as helping him truly understand what it means to be part of Davey. "Being there with so many people from North America and getting to know what employees do from all the service lines made a huge impact, and I'm still in touch with some of my D.I.T.S. classmates today," Morgan said. "It's fun to open up The Bulletin or emails with promotions and see fellow D.I.T.S. classmates advance their careers." As for mentoring employees, Morgan discusses long-term goals by getting to know people and where they want to be. "I'm a big promoter of trying to help everybody along the way," Morgan said. "Showing someone the difference between a savings account and the ROI on both the 401(k) and the Employee Stock Purchase Program often makes lightbulbs go off. Over time, these investments provide employees with the opportunity not only for a future with Davey, but a plan for retirement." '' I think that employee-ownership is a huge asset to be able to get your foot in the door with your company in a way that most people wouldn't be able to. It sets Davey apart and gives employees a completely different outlook on the company.
