May/June 2024
While in a meeting, David Poghen, general foreman,
FirstEnergy account, Eastern Utility services, and his
team heard a loud boom caused by a car accident. All 23
employees ran outside to check on those involved in
the accident, including a disoriented woman who fell to
the ground.
Noah Bender, foreman, FirstEnergy account, retrieved a
child who was in the backseat of a smoking vehicle.
"I'm super proud of my team," Poghen said. "They instantly
started flagging to control traffic and got everyone to safety
while waiting for the arrival of Emergency Medical Services."
CAR ACCIDENT SPURS
QUICK ACTION
Eric Seelye, assistant superintendent, Golf North, was on
his way home from work when he came across a vehicle
stuck in the mud on the off-ramp going towards the M-24
in Auburn Hills, Michigan. There were two people trying to
help push the car out, but luckily
Seelye was prepared.
"I always carry around a tow
strap and chain with me. Here in
Michigan, you never know if there
will be people on the side of the
road in the winter," Seelye said.
"Seeing them struggling to get
the car free from the mud made
me want to stop and help."
It only took five minutes to free
the driver's car from the mud, and
they were on their way.
