Botanical Garden
Eastern Utility services' City of Ocala account employees,
Chris Dodge, groundperson, Dennis Morales, general
foreman, and Daniel Nave, foreman, volunteered alongside
Ocala Electric Utility (OEU) employees to help spruce up
the plant beds at East Marion Elementary School, located in
Silver Springs, Florida.
Joseph Pate, senior account manager, Eastern Utility,
coordinated the volunteer work with Anthony Santangelo,
vegetation manager, OEU. This is the second year that
Davey has joined OEU on this project.
"It's a pleasure to do volunteer work for the schools
because the kids are our future," Santangelo said.
The volunteers worked on putting wood chips outside of
the school's entrance and in the back. Morales also noticed
there was a decaying tree that could be a danger to the
students, so the team recommended that the school has
it removed as well.

technician, volunteered at Lewis Ginter
Botanical Garden's annual volunteer
day in Henrico, Virginia, sponsored
by the Central Virginia Nursery and

Landscaping Association (CVNLA).
Andy Grassia, sales arborist, Richmond
office, is on the board of CVNLA as the
two-year director. Davey has maintained
a strong relationship with both CVNLA
and Lewis Ginter over the years.
"It gets the word out about Davey,
there," Morales said. "They were excited as the trucks
came in and were responsive to what we were doing. Their
smiles made everyone feel good."
but it's also great to give back to the
community," Grassia said. "In addition,
it allows our crews to have a fun time
and get some meaningful work in."
There was a bucket truck, a chip
truck, and a chipper present. The crew
worked on pruning and removing trees
as well as cleaning up all the debris.
"I try to do community service as a
regular part of my life, and I'm super
thrilled that I work for a company that
encourages volunteer efforts as part
of their operations," Valdes said.
