4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | November/December 2023 Q. WHAT ARE YOU THANKFUL FOR THIS YEAR? dramatically as a company over the years, we remain consistent at our core. In many ways, we can contribute our success to undeniable Davey truths: We do the right thing; we are conscientious about the environment; we care for each other; we protect the legacy of the Davey company; and we lean on our company values to achieve these things. We thrive on doing things the right way and with integrity. I'm thankful that, looking forward into the not-too-distant future, we will have created an exciting infrastructure that will provide us with opportunities to continue to differentiate Davey, not just within our industry, but in the communities where we live and work. The Davey SEED Campus, the third wing and corporate renovations, the S4 ® conversion and other ongoing improvements and investments will make us an attractive company to work for and work with for decades to come. I'm thankful we always run through the tape and work to finish each year strong. We never quit. As you spend time with your families this holiday season, take pride in knowing you've done your part to finish out the year strong and to provide our Davey families with the opportunity to achieve career and financial stability. I am hopeful that all our employees achieve every personal and career aspiration that they have here at Davey, and that we can celebrate that we work for an amazing company, full of exceptional people, who collectively do incredible things in our communities every day. Not everyone can say that! A. In addition to the normal things like family, friends, and health, I am thankful that our company, despite a challenging business environment, continues to have success and perform at a high level, while staying in alignment with our company values. Looking back, not just on the pace of this year but the past few years, it's surprising how fast they've gone. For 2023, once we worked through some early inflationary pressures, it's turned out to be one of the more successful "normal" business environments we've ever had. I'm thankful that, whatever the times, Davey continues to persevere. The culture that we have built over the years is timeless because it emphasizes and rewards a team approach, in which our employees work together and look out for each other. Our culture is sustainable, because we focus on business decisions that help us thrive in good times and weather the hard times. I'm grateful that we make strategic decisions and take purposeful actions that fit our culture and our company. We don't jump on the latest management or business trends because "everyone else is doing it." The way we lead our company and view the world is very Davey-centric, reflective, and thoughtful, and I am thankful we have leaders that have a shared vision and view the world through this lens. Much of this ability is due to our employee-ownership model, which lends itself to our ability to be strategic in that way. I continue to find it rewarding that, while we have evolved ASK THE CEO Pat Covey Davey Chairman, President and CEO
