This summer's Planting the SEED program was held at the Davey Institute over three days with a focus on supporting Eastern Utility services managers within their leadership roles. The program was created by Eastern Utility to help attendees learn to be better leaders and to create connec- tions for their future. Dana Shanabarger, general foreman, NIPSCO account, said the program allows for many unique team building and networking exercises to help participants get out of their comfort zones. "I think it's a good program, especially for new leaders getting into the field to teach them more about their own management style and help them be the best manager they can be," Shanabarger said. EASTERN UTILITY PLANTS THE SEED Commercial Landscape Services (CLS) held their annual CLS Leadership training over four days at the Davey Institute in August. Shawn Fitzgerald, technical advisor, Davey Institute, said the training included hands-on and classroom learning on safety, horticulture, and leadership skills. The group also toured the corporate office and Davey SEED (Science, Employee Education and Development) Campus, and attended the Davey Nursery's 60th anniversary, where they celebrated together by planting trees. Milo Archuleta, project manager, Oakland CFCS territory, said he enjoyed being able to connect with other Davey employees during the training.
