10 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | November/December 2023 VISION Davey Resource Group (DRG), Environmental Consulting services (EC), collaborated with Marks Construction, Inc., to complete the design and construction of a wetland and habitat restoration of Litchfield Wetlands Nature Preserve in Litchfield, Ohio, for Medina County Park District. The one-year project, funded through a grant from the H2Ohio Initiative under the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, transformed a former soybean farm into a nature preserve with the restoration of 86 acres of wetland and 22 acres of upland habitat. The project included invasive vegetation control, the planting of approximately 12,000 WETLAND RESTORATION CREATES NATURE PRESERVE native trees, shrubs, and forbs, and native seeding all done via drone, as well as recreational additions of a loop trail system, wildlife observation decks, a parking lot, and restrooms. Christina Znidarsic, senior associate consultant, DRG, EC, said the project's goal was to help improve local bird and other wildlife habitat and water quality. "Everybody enjoys working on these projects because the outcome is always great and they're inherently fun to work on," Znidarsic said. "We love being able to leave the earth better than we found it." Christina Znidarsic, senior associate consultant, DRG, Environmental Consulting services (EC), cuts the ribbon on the Litchfield Wetlands Nature Preserve in June. DRG EC team build members included Maritza Gonzalez, senior associate consultant; Keith Shane, environmental scientist; and Kaley Zatorski, associate consultant; with employees from DRG's engineering, surveying, and restoration teams. Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited's Victoria Residential office joined its neighbor, Industra Construction Corp., in partnering with Soles4Souls, a nonprofit organization aimed at distributing donated shoes and clothing items internationally to those in need. Dan Sharp, district manager, Victoria Residential office, gave the nonprofit a corner of the office's expansive yard, where Davey trucks can be seen parked at the end of the workday, to place a shipping container to hold donated shoes. Once the container is full, community and Davey volunteers come out on Saturdays to help move the shoes from their Davey parked container into one ready to ship overseas. "It's a small way we can partner with the community to give back to those in need and do something good," Sharp said.
