11 November/December 2023 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN STEWARDSHIP Over the past three years, the South St. Paul office has been working with local nonprofit Creative Enterprise Zone (CEZ) on their 100 Trees Initiative. It is an ongoing effort to plant and grow 100 trees every year to expand the city's urban tree canopy around the industrial neighborhood of Saint Anthony Park, Minnesota. Emily Mumford, assistant district manager, South St. Paul office, explains the initiative is a great way to give back to the community, improve the urban landscape, and connect with clients throughout the city. The office receives bareroot tree donations from Bailey Nurseries, and places them in a CEZ provided gravel bed during the spring. Then in the fall, Davey employees and community members volunteer to plant the trees. During this year's tree planting, Mumford was joined by fellow South St. Paul office volunteers Amy Caldwell, sales arborist; Matt Gerke, foreman; Alex Guest, trimmer; SOUTH ST. "The area has seen a lot of tree removal due to the invasive emerald ash borer," Mumford said. "So, this is a great opportunity for us to give back to our community and help improve the forest." This year's Tour des Trees to benefit the Tree Research and Education Endow - ment Fund (TREE Fund) kicked off in Reno, Nevada with the city's officially proclaimed, "Tour des Trees Day" and tree planting. The course spanned 407 miles over a scenic route to Half Moon Bay, California, with stops in between to plant more trees, celebrate local ar - borists, and view the stunning regional nature, including giant sequoia and redwood trees. Davey was a Crown partner and lunch sponsor for riders at a stop in Livermore, California. "The stops along the ride allow you to visit with these communities." The 350/350 virtual riding option was added to the Tour this year.
