POWER GRID WILDFIRE REMEDIATION
Davey Canada crews proudly helped
keep power flowing safely in the
electric transmission grid after wildfires
this summer burned countless trees,
creating debris hazards that threatened
grid infrastructure.
More than 5,700 wildfires have burned
throughout the Great White North this
wildfire season and are responsible
for burning more than 13.7 million
hectares (33.9 million acres). Smoke
from the fires blanketed huge swaths
of the U.S. and Canada this summer.
Turn to pages 6 and 7 to learn about
how Davey Canada crews helped
the recovery in the wake of several
wildfires.
TORNADOS TOPPLE TREES
Severe weather wreaked havoc
on parts of the U.S. spanning from
Colorado to Ohio.
Nearly every Residential/Commercial
services office in the Denver area
responded after an EF-1 tornado swept
through Highlands Ranch, where
employees in the South Denver office
actually witnessed the funnel cloud!
Turn to page 8 to read about it.
An even stronger EF-2 tornado ripped
through neighborhoods and a golf
course in the Toledo area, where
crews spent six weeks cleaning up
the damage to help their community
recover. Turn to page 9 to learn more.
RESEARCH, FOUNDATIONS
SPROUT AT SEED CAMPUS
Research programs are in full swing at
the Davey SEED (Science, Employee
Education and Development) Campus,
where scientists from the Davey
Institute are studying many aspects
of the landscape. More than 500
trees have been planted for research
purposes, and turfgrass, pollinator
habitat and insect studies are all
under way.
Learn about research at the SEED
Campus on page 17.
Construction for the new training
center and offices, as well as roads,
ponds and other infrastructure, is
moving at a fast pace at the SEED
Campus as well. Foundations for the
main building are being poured and
taking shape this summer and fall.

KUDOS FOR 'FATHER JOHN'
The Bulletin continues our
remembrance of our founder John
Davey in this issue, commemorating
100 years since his death in 1923,
with a short list of some of the many
ways John earned posthumous rec-
ognition for developing his ingenious
concept of tree surgery.
Turn to the back page of this issue to
learn just a few of the ways John was
recognized for his work by organizations
throughout North America.
