3 July/August 2023 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Our Mission We exceed client expectations. Leadership We take purposeful action toward our collective success. Perseverance We create solutions to overcome challenges. Integrity We are honest and truthful in all we do. Safety We protect and care for each other. Expertise We use science and knowledge to master our craft. Our Vision We create and deliver sustainable solutions. Stewardship We make the world around us better. CLIMBING TO NEW HEIGHTS Davey continues to be on the forefront of educating our employees who work on client properties every day, caring for all aspects of their landscapes. Climbing education in particular is approaching new heights at Davey. This issue of the Bulletin features an update on the Davey Science, Employee Education and Development (SEED) Campus, which will feature a 10,700-square-foot indoor climbing center. Turn to page 14 for a sneak peek at what Davey's indoor climbing facility will look like. It's not just the training facilities that are improving. Our climbing curriculum is also growing. Members of Davey's arborist skills trainers team are fine-tuning the company's climbing training curriculum, for use in the indoor climbing gym that is planned for the Davey SEED Campus. The curriculum was modified with input from a specialized at-height climbing training organization based in Wisconsin. Turn to page 15 to learn more about the evolution of climbing training. PLANTING HISTORY This year marks a milestone in the history of tree planting at Davey. The Davey Nursery in Wooster, Ohio, celebrates 60 years of growing trees for Davey clients this year. Planting at the farm first started in 1963. For a look at what tree planting used to look like, turn to page 18 for a brief, visual history of the Davey Nursery. INAUGURAL DIGM EN ESPAÑOL Davey held its first specialized company training taught all in Spanish. Commercial services hosted the first-ever Davey Institute of Grounds Management (D.I.G.M.) en Español to speak directly to Spanish-speaking employees. D.I.G.M. training historically has focused on various elements of commercial landscape care ranging from soil sample testing to plant health care techniques. While that did not change, the language did, and instructors spoke in Spanish directly to the attendees. Turn to page 12 to hear what employees who attended the inaugural D.I.G.M. en Español had to say about this groundbreaking experience. EXCEEDING CLIENT EXPECTATIONS Living Davey's Mission has helped one team expand and grow the services it is providing to a long-time utility client. Davey Resource Group's Utility Asset Management services is managing a significant two-pole remediation project for client Duke Energy spanning from Florida through the Carolinas and across the Midwest. The work involves critical removal, installation and attachment of equipment to telephone poles in order to help meet the client's need for electric grid modernization. Turn to page 7 to learn about how we are exceeding client expectations. Matt Fredmonsky ROOT OF THE ISSUE
