13 July/August 2023 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN Seventeen Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited employees representing all four service lines gathered for a two-day Leaders of Tomorrow (LofT) training in Ancaster, Ontario. Steve Bragg, sales arborist, Hamilton Residential office, and Jaclyn Cullen, groundperson, London office, were each recognized for their participation efforts at the end of the first and second days, respectively. Bragg enjoyed the chance to meet colleagues from other areas to learn about the challenges and opportunities they experience. "A lot of the training was about changing the way we look at something, or changing the lens, so to speak. Rather than looking at something as a problem, make it an opportunity if possible. It's a key element to running a successful business," Bragg said. One focus of the training was about Davey's current approach to safety. "We're taking a more holistic approach to figure out what and why something went wrong, then retraining. We want to coach individuals to help bring them back to where they need to be," Bragg noted. Cullen said she appreciated hearing about Davey Canada's future projects and initiatives from the upper management's perspective. "We're exploring the market in Eastern Canada by having Davey Resource Group do inventories in areas where we may want to expand and begin projects in the future," Cullen added. LEADERS OF TOMORROW LEARN IN ONTARIO '' Safety plays a big role in my day-to-day work. I've given safety trainings to teammates in both English and Spanish to ensure everyone understands the practices of a safe work environment. By ensuring safety not only for my team, but for all employees in the field, there is a balance created between safety and performance that has a great impact on Davey's daily production and overall safety culture.
