4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | January/February 2023 Q. HOW DO THE SEED CAMPUS AND THIRD WING SUPPORT FIELD OPERATIONS? providing the highest quality support to our service lines and their clients. The third wing and planned renovations to the original two wings helps us create an environment that will attract the best people to work in our operations support departments. As we become a bigger company and have more demands for the type of talent we need to attract, investing in the amenities available in the space where these people will work helps give us a recruiting edge in the talent market. We had also been renting numerous temporary locations throughout Kent, and the third wing allows us to gather many corporate employees back into one location, which better serves the collaborative approaches that further underpin our company culture. More than anything, these new spaces foster more opportunities to identify the types of partnership approaches to client service that drive so much of our success at Davey. We were also fortunate with the third wing addition that we already had adequate space to expand at the corporate offi ce. From an affordability standpoint, this truly provided an economical solution to adding space for current and future support staff. I encourage you to follow the news of the SEED Campus as it develops here in the Bulletin, on DaveyConnect and on Davey.com/SEED, and if you have an upcoming trip to Kent that you ask for a tour of the new corporate addition. Both spaces show how we're raising the bar on how we support our fi eld workforce. Turn to pages 14-15 to learn more about the third wing and SEED Campus. A. The Davey SEED (Science, Education and Employee Development) Campus is completely intended to revolve around the needs, expectations, and engagement of our fi eld workforce. Every ounce of feedback, design input and critical thought put into planning the campus and its facilities centers on elevating our employees. Its purpose, once open, is to help our fi eld personnel be engaged, be skilled, be safe, and have access to the best educational opportunities that we can offer in support of their individual career development goals. The SEED Campus will increase our ability to be fl exible with our training opportunities, so training can be held in-person or remote, whether remote means virtually or in another location. We understand not every employee may be able to come to Kent to train at the SEED Campus. The quality and design standards of our indoor climbing center will allow us to explore joining a network of about a dozen indoor, work-at-height climbing training centers. Collaborating with these climbing training centers offers the potential for our employees to experience the same level of training from a Davey trainer they might experience at the SEED Campus, but at the nearest climbing center to them, thanks to this facility-sharing opportunity. This is just one example of how the educational elements of the SEED Campus focus on the fi eld. The campus is an invaluable, forward-looking investment in training and developing our employees to support the next several decades of anticipated continued growth at Davey. And it's a testament to our past 140-plus years of company culture that have always prioritized our people and their growth. The third-wing addition to the corporate offi ce is another example of how culturally our company is committed to ASK THE CEO Pat Covey Davey Chairman, President and CEO
