15 January/February 2023 | THE DAVEY BULLETIN DAVEY BREAKS GROUND ON NEW SEED CAMPUS Construction is underway on the new Davey SEED (Science, Employee Education & Development) Campus, which is located across the street from the company's corporate offi ce in Kent, Ohio. The city of Kent approved the site plan for the property in November. That action cleared the way for grading and site work, which is anticipated to be under way in January. Current work on the property includes tree removals and tree fencing protection installation in preparation for building construction. The primary goal for the property this winter is to install the main driveway, the building pad for the main building and to put in place the main utility corridor running all water, sewer, electric and other utility lines from S.R. 43 back to the main building site. Additionally, this winter the company put out to bid the structural steel package for the main building with the goal of having steel ready to start building construction this spring. The target completion date for the main building is late 2024. Above: Members of the Davey Company's leadership team and project partners from The Ruhlin Company and SmithGroup break ground at Davey Tree's new SEED (Science, Employee Education & Development) Campus on Nov. 30, 2022. The SEED Campus is on a 170-plus acre property that formerly housed the Oak Knolls East golf course and Franklin Elementary School on State Route 43 in Kent, Ohio. It will be the new home to specialized training and research facilities for Davey and will include a 25,000-square-foot training center and associated offi ces, a 10,700-square-foot indoor climbing center, 18 spans of non-energized utility right-of-way, laboratories and greenhouses, a container nursery and multiple research plots and fi elds. Right: This architectural artists' rendering shows the exterior of the climbing center, at left, and the hallway connecting it to the main building as seen from the north. Below: This architectural rendering shows the exterior of the two large classrooms in the main building as seen from the south.
