BONEFISHING IN THE BAHAMAS
Joe Tommasi, who recently retired
as vice president, corporate safety,
holds a copy of the Bulletin,
celebrating his retirement with a
trip to the Bahamas.
"I enjoyed spending a week at
Pleasant Bay in South Andros,
Bahamas, chasing bonefish on the
gorgeous and seemingly endless
flats there with a fly rod. A special
thank you to my fellow Davey
people who contributed towards
this trip as a retirement gift for
me. I am very appreciative of
your generosity," Tommasi said.
Fellow fly fishers and friends
joined Tommasi on the trip. Chagrin
River Outfitters, located in Chagrin
Falls, Ohio, organized and hosted
the trip on-site. South Andros,
Bahamas, is not a tourist destination,
but is instead known for some of
the best bonefishing around.
Bonefishing has become an
increasingly popular sport and
requires skill and patience.
Weighing up to 14 pounds,
bonefish live in shallow water.
Known as "grey ghosts" with
varying colors from silver to olive
green and blue-green, they easily
blend in with the grass that covers
many of the flats, and they move
very quickly.
