PET SKETCH ARTIST'S PASSION HELPS OTHERS
Rachel Foot, manager of online education, Davey Institute,
has always enjoyed drawing, and she loves animals.
Foot discovered some cute animals on social media and
decided to try to draw them. Her friends posted her pet
drawings on their social media pages, and Foot soon picked
up more followers. She realized people have a huge appetite
to have their pets drawn up.
"The most enjoyable part is when you see someone get
their pet portrait, and you can just tell how much love they
have for their pet," says Foot. "Those who've had pets
pass away often want portraits, and it's really nice to know
you've helped them in some way."
Foot always asks for one clear reference photo, explaining
that many pet portrait artists don't freehand the outline. They
use the reference photo as an outline and then do all of the
fur and the colors themselves, says Foot, and build out from
there.
"I don't think that people are born with the skill to do
things like this," Foot notes. "The only reason my portraits
are where they are now is because of pure practice and
watching tutorials."
