4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2022 Q. WHY INVEST IN THE DAVEY SEED CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT AND CORPORATE OFFICE THIRD-WING ADDITION? providing them with a unique learning campus to better themselves and be all-in on the company and their careers. The Davey Company has a legacy of training, education, and research, and the last two years have certainly reinforced the idea that investing in our employees is the critical driver of our success. It is very difficult to be a successful service company and provide clients with an exceptional experience without engaged, well-trained employees, and they will continue to be the most valuable component to the health, growth, and success of our company. The SEED Campus is a big part of the company's future success and shines a light on our commitment to our employees' individual success and role within Davey. The financial and shareholder results will be there if we commit to this investment. Similarly, we are investing in both our field and our corporate support personnel by building the third-wing addition to the corporate office. For many years we have known we were outgrowing the current corporate office. We delayed its construction due to various business priorities and COVID-19, but ultimately, that delay has only amplified our space issues. The company's unprecedented growth over the past five years has facilitated the need to add support personnel, and while working remote due to COVID-19 office restrictions helped alleviate some space stresses, we will need all the space the third-wing adds once that building opens. Between the new third wing, and updating the existing two wings of the corporate office, by A. Like many companies, we are constantly looking for ways to attract, engage and retain the best people. Over the past few years, we have focused significant effort and investment into employee initiatives. The growth of our recruiting department, headed by Anna Davis and Brigitte Orrick, implementation of SAP ® SuccessFactors, and development of our Learning Management Systems (LMS) are examples of our recent commitment to these efforts, and we continue to look for ways to meet our strategic plan objective: To make Davey a great place to work, while delivering client and shareholder value. From a long-term perspective, in a competitive labor market that will only get more challenging, the Davey Science, Employee Education and Development (SEED) Campus provides us with our most important differentiator for attracting and retaining leaders in support of Davey's future generations. It's a visible and impactful commitment to employee engagement, training, and safety. For potential employees looking for a company that is showing definitive ways that it is investing in their future and career, there will be no better testament, or more tangible evidence to Davey's commitment, than the SEED Campus. It will include amenities to make the space environmentally sustainable, functional, and enjoyable, so that employees who visit the campus appreciate the experience, but there is no money being spent or resources committed that aren't geared solely toward Davey employee development and education, or industry research to support our employees and clients. It is 100% focused on training our people better, engaging them, and summer 2023, we project that we will be set for the next 10 to 15 years to support our expanding operations. In the end, we will all benefit by having a new and modernized work environment to collaborate in, support our culture, and grow the company. The SEED Campus and Third Wing require a significant investment, but both are critical, and together, they speak volumes about our commitment to our employees, their careers with Davey and our objective to make Davey a great place to work, while delivering client and shareholder value.
