The Davey Tree Expert Company P.O. Box 5193 Kent, Ohio 44240-5193 TOURING ITALY 1 VINEYARD AT A TIME Richard Nelson, UVM lead specialist, DRG, and his wife traveled to Iceland and then to Norway for the burial of his mother. On their way to Bergen, Norway, Nelson and his wife Christine spent three days in Reykjavik, Iceland. While there, they visited the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa. Nelson said being at the Blue Lagoon, pictured, was a time to relax after the loss of his mother. In Iceland, they only saw trees in landscaped Ken Celmer, retired senior vice president, and his wife Diana traveled to Italy with her brother and sister-in-law. They spent two weeks touring Rome, Florence and Tuscany. "So many vineyards and so little time," Celmer said. "But we managed to cover ground in the regions of Chianti, Montalcino, Montepulciano and San Gimignano. All producing quality reds and whites including the famous Brunello and Vernaccia." areas, homes, businesses and parks. Iceland once had forests, but it was deforested by the Vikings. Now the country is working to restore its forests. Nelson spent five days in Bergen, Norway. Each day was memorable for Nelson. They stayed with his great aunt Lillian and enjoyed a day of sightseeing with her. The Bergen Fish Market and Bryggen are all-time favorite destinations for Nelson. "Another DAVEY AROUND THE WORLD day was for celebrating my mom's life with our family and friends," he said. "We were glad to bring mom back home. She is buried next to her mother and father." One of the reasons they went to Tuscany was to learn more about commercial grape growing. "We started a vineyard on our farm in New Hampshire three years ago," Celmer said. "Our first harvest will be this fall." This photo was taken near San Gimignano in Tuscany. Celmer sported this Davey backpack that was given as a gift over 20 years ago. It has been on many trips and put on many air miles with Davey, and during his retirement. Thank you, Ken, for taking a piece of Davey with you on your trip. We hope you all had a wonderful time. We are very sorry for your loss, Richard. Thank you for bringing the Bulletin along on such a meaningful trip. TAKING HIS MOTHER HOME TO NORWAY
