For 90 years, Wickes has provided residential and commercial tree services, plant health care and lawn care in Rockland County, New York. Jim Houston, vice president and general manager, Eastern U.S. Residential/Commercial (R/C) services, said the Wickes office will join Davey's Northeast R/C operating group. The office will conduct business as Wickes/arborists, a Davey company. The new Davey office will be led by former owners James Wickes, who will serve as district manager, and John Wickes, who will serve as assistant district manager. James and John are the grandsons of company founder Ira Wickes, who established the firm in 1929. Wickes has 22 employees, all of whom will continue employment with Davey. "Since my grandfather started this company, Wickes has employed safety focused and industry certified arborists, plant health care technicians, and lawn health care operators," James Wickes said. "I am excited to join forces with Davey Tree. We are thankful that we can continue to be passionate about tree care in our region as we grow with Davey." Welcome to the Davey family! ACQUISITION NASHVILLE TORNADO CLEANUP SPURS VOLUNTEER RESPONSE When multiple tornados ripped through the middle of Tennessee in early March, employees from several Davey service lines volunteered their time to do safe tree removals for communities in need. NASHVILLE R/C & CLS A 12-person team consisting of employees from Davey's Nashville Residential/Commercial (R/C) office and the Nashville Commercial Landscape Services (CLS) territory provided tree work in low-income areas in Hermitage and Lebanon, Tennessee. The volunteer group also enlisted the help of past Davey employees and family members as part of the large, all-volunteer effort. Rob Kraker, sales arborist, Nashville R/C office, organized the volunteer team of tree care professionals. This event, though volunteer, was not unlike other Davey storm responses where safety is top of mind. While performing storm work, safety is always critical. Before any work was done, Kraker said the team performed job briefings, assessed each situation for potential hazards and wore the proper PPE. Kraker made a point to tell everyone at the job briefing that this wasn't a day to test out new skills, such as how to run a chainsaw or climb a tree, and that everyone would have tasks fit for their skill level.
