OFFSEASON PLANT HEALTH CARE TRAINING
During two January sessions, 42 Davey employees in
the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic R/C service line operating
groups attended the Davey Institute of Horticultural Sciences
(DIHS). The sessions were held in Kent at the Davey
Institute and in Philadelphia at the King of Prussia R/C office.
The weeklong program focuses on plant health care
techniques and covers topics such as pest and disease
management, pesticide handling, tree and shrub identification
and diagnostics, fertilization practices, pruning, cabling and
bracing of hazard trees, as well as cultural practices.
Attendees of the Kent session of DIHS in January included Louis Acre-Kendall, Ben Adams, Kristofer Baker, Ethan Breckner, Justin Cuggino,
Andrew Graf, Tyler Griffith, Jessica Harmotta, Hunter Heightland, Daniel Henry, Drew Iverson, Richard Kreutzmann, Cody Lamson,
Gregory Matthews, Christopher Mazza, Jason Poirier, Robert Rami, Erica Ritt, Mariah Sachs, David Sholl, Patrick Showers, Adrian Smith,
Virginia Tharpe, Evan Wade and Tyler Wilkin.
At the Kent session there were 26 attendees from 15
R/C offices and at the Philadelphia session there were
16 attendees from 16 different R/C offices. The Philadelphia
session also included an intern orientation event, with 11
interns (pictured opposite page) from eight R/C offices.
Instructors at the sessions included Chrissy Balk, technical
advisor, the Davey Institute, and district managers Gary
Schermerhorn, King of Prussia, and Jason Parker, North
Philadelphia.
