THE DAVEY BULLETIN
EXPLORING A WONDER OF THE ANCIENT WORLD
Kyle Paton, technical skills trainer, safety department,
Davey Tree Expert Co. of Canada, Limited, traveled
to Cairo, Egypt, with his girlfriend for her best
friend's wedding.
"I joked with John Arico that despite my attempts
to establish a Davey office in Egypt I came up short,
because there aren't as many trees there as I thought
there would be," Paton said. "That was a bit of
an adjustment."
While in Cairo they toured the region. On the last day
of their trip, they visited the Pyramids at Giza.
"It's beyond words when you are standing at the base
and you realize it was assembled by people," Paton
said. "These blocks are the size of cars. It's a cool
part of history."
Another fascinating excursion on their trip was taking
a hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings.
"That's a put- you-in-your place moment when you
realize how small you are," he said.
During the balloon ride, Paton lost his casual
sunglasses – they landed somewhere in a field.
But luckily, he had a pair of Davey safety glasses.
"The durability of Davey safety glasses can't be
overstated," Paton said. "I had a pair of Davey darks
in my bag. I wore them the rest of the trip and they
can handle anything you throw at them."
This photo was taken on Kyle Paton's last day in Egypt. Paton
said it was difficult to keep that Davey Bulletin wrinkle free. He
sandwiched it in his bag and it actually survived until the end
of the trip.
