14 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | November/December 2019 SAFETY NEW ACCOUNT STARTS RIGHT WITH SAFETY STREAK Davey crews on the Florida Power & Light account are starting off this new operation right by maintaining an OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) of 0.0 since ramping up the account in January. Initially, Davey started with just three crews on the account. By October, that number had grown to seven crews totaling 17 employees. Venancio Montero, project developer, Florida Power & Light account, said they work hard to ensure the client's goals are met safely and efficiently. "It's all about planning your work and working your plan," Montero said. Employees on the Florida Power and Light account include, pictured: Juan Avalos, Christian Avalos, David Gonzalez, Anthony Horne, Francisco Flores, Elio Muro, Misael Marzo, Chad Benton, Cesar De Pro, Armando Osorio, Adam Horne, Jose Hernandez and Luis Rivera. Not pictured are Jose Reyes, Dagoberto Sanchez and Marcos Guerrero. For the crews, both the plan and the work center on communication. Montero makes sure they conduct weekly safety tailgate meetings, daily job briefings and even bi-monthly safety managers' meetings. Close- call communications, near-misses and other topics are all fair game for discussion. Such frequent communication is an important component in maintaining their safety record, Montero said. "We bring in any concerns regarding safety to the group," he said. "Then, as a group, we plan what we can do to mitigate those safety concerns in every area. I can't thank my team enough for their constant focus on exceeding both the client's expectations and Davey's high safety standards." Laura Wimer, director of client experience, Eastern Utility services, said the Florida Power & Light crews are a perfect example of how Davey works to provide each and every client with an excellent service experience. "This experience starts and ends with safety," Wimer said. "We can provide a quality product efficiently, but we need to ensure that safety is our constant throughout a project."
