4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | May/June 2019 ARBORGUARD ATLANTA OFFICE Thanks for a great job. Your crew was wonderful. Having these trees removed has taken 10 years off my life. I'm 75 years old and doing cartwheels down the street! Susan Buckingham Decatur, Georgia DAVEY RESOURCE GROUP Jim Jenkins Regarding the tree assessment you did for us; I was able to secure funding to remove some trees that need to go. One oak you had done a level 3 assessment that proved interesting because, at first glance, it really didn't look bad in terms of health than some others in that same alley. However, your assessment showed it was severely flawed, and during that brief ice event we had in November it lost some moderately sized limbs. I could clearly see the tree was in much worse condition than it showed. Once the tree was removed, by comparing pictures with your written report and the resistograph data, it was plain to see how the data revealed the internal issues that were present in the tree. Pretty cool stuff! Roger Hamilton Manager, Wooster Campus Grounds The Ohio State University DETROIT EDISON ACCOUNT My neighbor had a large, old Mulberry tree behind their shed. When Detroit Edison came to check the trees affecting the power lines, he mentioned he could not get a hold of my neighbors. When I spotted your crew in my neighbor's yard, I asked them if they had gotten permission to remove the tree. They said 'No,' but they had a form I could give the neighbor to sign for permission and would return that week. Well, they were here the next day, removing the Davey's recruiting team members have several advantages over other companies in the green industry. First, our recruiters' sole focus is scouting and hiring the best in our field. Second, we have localized recruiting hubs. Recruiters are based where we have concentrations of field operations. Being embedded in a region provides a connection to the needs of our local offices, jobseekers and the community. Our recruiters are in touch with the needs of the market. So often before we had missed opportunities because an applicant might not be appropriate for one job, yet they could have been a good fit for another position. Through our hubs, recruiters can see all the jobs we need to fill in that market, and that knowledge improves our chances of finding a fit for an applicant. That helps turn potential recruits into new Davey employees. Finally, our Ed (employee development) system keeps applicants from slipping through the cracks and missing a job opportunity with us. Ed captures every applicant who applies with Davey. Those applicants become part of our talent community, which now numbers close to 70,000, and provide recruiters with a huge pool of applicants to mine. In 2018 we hired a new director of recruiting and employee development. In that role, Brigitte Orrick takes all the tools available to our recruiters and develops a strategic approach to hiring. This plan is scalable, so our recruiting efforts will grow with the company. You're also part of our recruiting team. Every Davey employee can help find qualified candidates. The easiest way is to direct people to our website, jobs.davey.com, where they can search for jobs by region. You can also benefit from Davey's referral bonus program. For U.S. employees, if you refer a friend and Davey hires them, you can get a $1,000 bonus. If we are all actively looking for people and talking about the opportunities Davey offers, it can only help bring in people we know will be good employees for Davey. It's all about building a stronger company. ASK THE CEO: HOW DOES OUR RECRUITING TEAM COMPETE FOR JOB SEEKERS? Pat Covey Davey President and CEO RESOLVE
