DUNE LIFE
Chad Allen, assistant district manager,
South Detroit R/C office, his wife
Brianna, son Samuel, 6, and his
in-laws spent a week last summer
in Manistee, Michigan.
During their stay, they decided to
venture to Empire, Michigan, home
of the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes
National Park. Allen said they spent
the day hiking through the dunes,
picnicked and went to the beach.
"They are very impressive," Allen
said. "At one point, where you are
overlooking Lake Michigan, there's
a 200-foot drop to the water, at a
45-degree angle all the way down.
People would run down that, all the
way to Lake Michigan. Then it would
take them two hours to hike back up.
It's very steep."
This was his son's first time at the
sand dunes and it's something Allen's
glad he could share with him.
"He had a blast," Allen said. "Just
getting to be there to watch my son
be in awe of the beauty of all the
sand dunes was a highlight for me."
