4 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | March/April 2019 BC HYDRO ACCOUNT We want to extend our gratitude to all of the crews from Hydro and Davey involved with restoring power through the aftermath of the Dec. 20, 2018, wind storm. During a time when they should have been celebrating Christmas with their families they brought celebration to ours Christmas Day on Thetis Island when the lights came on after five days. I know it's more than simply remuneration that motivates these committed workers. Through the dark days of winter in adverse weather conditions, relentless tree clearing and repairs were made. We also acknowledge and send thanks to all the behind the scenes staff who worked tirelessly as well. Lea and Peter Theriault Thetis Island, British Columbia CORPORATE OFFICE Marie Miller had a vision – to provide a safe place for those to be who are experiencing homelessness. She looked to her community to help her build the home you see today. It warms the heart to know that our community is still supporting our mission, Marie's mission, to simply care for those who need it. Thank you for your contribution this year. Traci Larlham Director, Miller Community House CRYSTAL LAKE OFFICE I recently had a scottish pine removed and replaced by another tree. I want you to know how pleased I am with the excellent level of service by your company. The tree was promptly removed, the next day they ground up the remaining stump, and immediately replaced this with a new tree. The work was clean, prompt and efficient. I am so happy with your fine service. Karen Nagel Barrington, Illinois Every Davey employee has access to a virtual library, the Learning Management System (LMS), which offers remote training capabilities and distance learning opportunities. The LMS is flexible. You can access it day or night. It's adaptable. You can connect to it on your smartphone, your tablet or laptop. And it's enormous. The LMS is packed full of videos, documents, web links and other materials organized by our experts at the Davey Institute. Everyone's familiar with D.I.T.S and our other world-class training programs. But those can be limited because you have to travel to Kent, and class sizes are restrained to a select few each session by facility constraints. With the LMS, we can improve everyone's knowledge, regardless which service line at Davey you're part of or where in North America you work. But we're doing more. We're also expanding our skills trainers program to put trainers alongside employees, working in the field, to learn new techniques designed with safety and efficiency in mind. You can read more about our skills trainers in the May/June issue of The Bulletin. And we're developing concepts for the planned Davey East Campus in Kent. The new corporate training facility will be built for education and research, with expanded facilities for indoor and outdoor training and more. We'll be able to share details on that later this year as plans take shape. The best thing you can do now is reach out to your supervisor or R.J. Laverne and Shawn Skilton at the Institute to learn more about how you can benefit from using the LMS. Contact Laverne via email at rj.laverne@davey.com or Skilton at shawn.skilton@davey.com.
