Retired Davey Chairman, President
and CEO Doug Cowan, his son Geoff
Cowan, operations manager, Davey's
Chicago-based R/C north-central
operations, and their entire family,
15 Cowans in total, spent a week
in beautiful, exotic Costa Rica.
Doug shared some interesting
facts about this gorgeous Central
American country:
• Costa Rica's no larger than
Lake Michigan.
• CR's population is about 4.5 million
and 98 percent are literate.
• CR is so close to the equator that the
sun rises and sets at the same time
every day, which is about 5:15 a.m.
in the morning and 6 p.m. at night.
• The country receives about 100 inches
of rainfall annually. However, some of
the rainforests get about 25 feet of
rainfall each year. By comparison,
Florida receives about 55 inches
of rainfall and Ohio receives about
39 inches.
• Costa Rica also has the world's largest
habitat for butterflies and humming
birds. "Amazing biodiversity," Doug said.
The Cowans' thoroughly enjoyed
their trip, he said.
