SAVING ONE WOMAN'S JULY FOURTH
Marty Kenosian was having a usual
pre-holiday week – busily handling
client calls and making sure everything
was in order for the upcoming Fourth
of July holiday – when he received an
unusual voicemail.
A woman in Davenport, Iowa, had
been directed to Kenosian, production
manager, Utility services, after she
called the Davey corporate office
looking for help. Nancy Mathews had
tried raising the flag in her front yard
when the halyard came loose from
the top pulley. She worried about how
she would raise her flag to celebrate
her country's Independence Day.
"I told her not to worry," Kenosian said.
In explaining the call to one of his
general foremen, Kenosian wound up
with a team of Davey volunteers who
stepped in to help raise the flag, which
had been a gift from her children and
had once flown above the U.S. Capitol.
Left: Employees who helped repair the flag
pole were Nate Bloomquist, foreman, Ben
Edge, foreman, Marty Kenosian, production
manager, Don Muller, general foreman, and
Waylon Roberts, trimmer.
Above: Davey helped an Iowa woman fix
her flag pole right before July Fourth.
"Our guys jumped to work and stood
proud while her flag moved to the top
of the pole," Kenosian said.
