8 THE DAVEY BULLETIN | July/August 2018 BUCKET TRUCK GETS PEOPLE TALKING Davey's Santa Cruz R/C office partnered up with the Davey Tree Surgery Company to participate in the annual Santa Cruz Touch a Truck event. Davey Tree Surgery supplied a boom truck with 100 feet of reach for the event. The event organizer, Gina Johnson, said the truck was a huge hit. "People are still talking about it!" This was Davey's second year participating. The event is a fundraiser for the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation, benefitting the local public school district. "We live in the community, have young children and wanted to give back to the community," said Travis Evans, district manager, Santa Cruz R/C office. FIELD NOTES Travis Evans and Jaime Merritt from Davey's Santa Cruz R/C office, along with Ben Johnson and Jeff Johnson with the Davey Tree Surgery Company, attended the annual touch a truck event in Santa Cruz, California. HEAVY EQUIPMENT TURNS ADULTS INTO KIDS Ben Wasielewski, foreman, Orlando R/C office, participated in a Touch a Truck event at Trinity Lutheran School located in downtown Orlando. His daughter Ava, 8, was a third-grader at the school at the time, and that's how Wasielewski became involved with the event. This is one of the school's largest fundraisers. The money raised supports school functions for the students. "It's good for the kids and families," he said. "But, it's also good to show the public that we are out in the community and support schools." One of the memorable moments from the day was watching the adults become kids themselves, Wasielewski said. "The adults were climbing through the trucks just as much as the children were," he said. "Can we go up in the bucket?" This was the number one question Ben Wasielewski heard from children and adults. During the event, the bucket stayed extended to display an American flag.
